Artist statement.

As a photographer, Anne Nobels captures what moves her, arising from her needs to share experiences, express feelings, tell stories, discuss topics or highlight beauty. These needs often arise from vulnerability. Her photographed images and the underlying themes are therefore often vulnerable in nature. By challenging herself to be vulnerable in her photos, Nobels encourages us as viewers to dare to be more vulnerable as well.

Linda Köke

Nobels starts from a theme that concerns her at that moment. She investigates this theme both visually and substantively: she looks for how others depict this and for her own ways of recording this, and explores which substantive and symbolic meanings and associations are connected to this theme. She then retouches and combines the photos she takes where necessary, without losing the realistic and vulnerable character that makes her work unmistakably hers.
